The Father leans over the sleeping child and smiles. He gently strokes the soft head, and runs his finger across a wrinkle-free forehead onto her pink cheek.
“Welcome, Little One.” He leans in closer inhaling the fresh, sweet scent of new life. “You are so precious to me. I have been with you from the very start, in the secret place, even as your tiny body was being formed. You are always on my mind. My thoughts for you outnumber the grains of sand.”
All heavenly voices are hushed, in this sacred moment, as they listen to the words spoken from Creator to creation.
“Never forget this one truth, my child; let it define you- your life is my idea. Your mother’s womb was my studio. Within your tiny body is everything you need to become the masterpiece I have envisioned.”
“My works are wonderful and you are a reflection of my creativity, my image. As I knit you together, I saw your life, the sum of your days. This day as well as all the others, the end from the beginning and all the in-between.”
The baby stirs, body and emotions responding to physical needs. Big, strong artist hands reach beneath the blanket, tenderly drawing the child up to His chest.
“Even now, I am hemming you in. My hand is upon you; I will go before and behind. You will not be able to flee from me. My presence will be with you always - when you face me and when you turn your back. You will try to hide from me, but the darkness you will wrap yourself in, will be as light to me. There is no night that can keep my Father’s eyes from you.”
“I am familiar with all your ways. I know your thoughts, when you will rise up and when you will lie down. I see who you will become as clearly as I see you in this moment, and I know the perfect blend of trials and blessings to get you there. I promise you, I will complete what I start and stand with you through it all.”
“As I see your life, my child, I see the good and the bad, the surrender and the resistance. Still I delight in you, and I long to hear your voice call my name.”
Kissing the tiny forehead, the Father gently places the squirming infant in her cradle.
“Hush, My Little One. I have given you life. You are my daughter. I will sing to you through the voice of the birds and caress you with the breeze. As surely as the ocean’s waves reach the shore, so will my love wash over your life. For eternity, I remain your Abba, Father.”
*********
On the other side of town, a door slams in an empty hallway of neglect. Curses are heard above the blare of a television. Children fight, dogs bark, sirens scream through the streets below and join together as a backdrop for another child, also fresh to the world, who fusses in a makeshift bed. A chill in the air seeks to lay hold but is dispelled by the warmth of the Father’s love. He speaks, and the child’s spirit receives.
“Welcome, Little One. You are so precious to me. I have been with you from the very start; your life is my idea. Even now, I am hemming you in. I will keep and protect, challenge and inspire you, for I see the child of God you will become. I know what will be needed to complete you, both the good and the bad. Let me define you…”
And all heaven hushes as the visit continues.
