Good Evening, Lord,
It's hard to believe;
That I'm calling you up
On this New Year's Eve!

But it's midnight, Lord
Down here on Earth
And we've been celebrating
This New Year's birth!

Perhaps, dear Lord,
It was that sip of wine
Or those"old acquaintances"
In that.."Auld Lang Syne";

But all of a sudden
In the midst of that din...
I was carried back Home
To my childhood again!

"Home" for this girl-child
Was mother and dad,
Until I grew up
And had my own pad!

Some pads were ritzy
Strictly Up-Town;
While others were cold flats
About six flights down..

But whatever the address,
Whether Brooklyn or Rome,
That was my castle
My fortress, my Home!

But now, dear Lord
The world's not the same.
It's become so violent
That killings a game!

So I called you tonight
Cause I want to come home,
Since nothing's down here
But gold-plated chrome!

So please, dear Lord,
I'm homesick and blue;
I want to come home
And be with you!

I'm weary and tired
And I've come a long way,
So let me come home
Without delay!

Good night, dear Lord,
I'll close this prayer..
A Happy New Year to you..
I'm so glad you were there!

I think that this poem speaks to what a lot of Christians feel. I had this discussion with some friends of mine at work today and when I said that I was ready to die you would have thought that I had threatened their dogs. All I was saying was that I feel prepared to meet my maker. It doesn't mean that I'm suicidal. I think that all Christians should be prepared. Paul also had that opinion when he said for me to die is gain in Phil 1:21. Anyway I enjoyed the poem and I appreciate the feelings that it evoked. Thanks for your bravery in presenting it.

Yes, a lovely conversational tone. The main idea is clearly expressed. I particularly like the reference to 'gold-plated chrome!' Most of what we cling to is shiny and practically worthless. :-) Yeggy

I like this conversation with the Lord and you telling him how you feel, and what better time than New Year's Eve when folks feel sad and lonely, looking back on their life and lifestyle. You handled this very well.
