My life, it seemed, sadly predestined
My mother let depression set in
My beginning already looked dim.
Early years, my life seems to stop
Remembrance of things I wish I forgot
Forced to do things I’d rather not
Sharpest memories of summers so hot
My mind is a blur, no memories abound
My childhood years, not much is found
What memories I have, I try to keep around
Not much was done in my little farm town
A father I got, still a child was I
Love came in, I was hardening from life
We were poor in money, strong in strife
Often I thought to end it all with a knife
I turned twelve, a new thing I found
The flow was steady, alcohol would abound
Not sure how I did it, but it was always around
My mind became numb, I removed every sound
My teen years full of demons, sin became a friend
Drugs ran my life, alcohol ran in every blend
Pornography and fornication, did I seem to lend
Hell was I destined myself would I gladly send.
Graduation from High School came and went
Now an adult, I was surely hell bent
Parties and pleasure, heartache and pain
Military service started, I felt like I was insane.
The demons in my head grew and grew
The alcohol consumed me, but nobody knew
Secret pleasures allowed me to bid this life ado
Anger, pain and frustration began to stew
Suicide became the solution I sought
More and more, the demons I fought
Alcohol controlled my every thought
The military helped to thicken the plot
In my mind the thoughts twisted and turned
The hatred and the pain began to burn
Once again, an end began to churn
From my addictions and failures I could not learn.
Now, let’s fast forward, past family deaths
Let’s bypass broken relationships and past regrets
Let’s speed through college and cute fluffy pets
We’ll end up stopping this train and pull out the steps
I was asked to go to a concert, so I caved
March 15, 1997 is when I first heard of streets gold paved
Ray Boltz played songs with videos displayed
And I learned that I needed to give all and then He saved
My demons and addictions that night did flee
Jesus, my Savior, finally found me
He changed my life, to my surprise and my glee
He entered my heart and made me complete
Now I think of life everlasting
I write to tell of love that’s lasting
I tell others that I serve a God surpassing
His wish that all would come just asking
My life it seems, spared for His good works
He took me in with all my quirks
Now I’m forgiven, you can be too
He called to me so he will call to you.

Traditionalists may say that there needs to be more consistency in your style and meter, but that's hard to do when you're telling a story. Really good effort.
