I was dead. I was really dead.
I don’t remember how it happened. Besides that isn’t the most important part of this story.
Death seemed to be truly reminiscent of life. I hated standing in lines then and I still hated standing in them now.
The line was so deathly silent (excuse the pun) you could hear a pin drop.
This room reminded of me of the doctor’s office waiting room. Everything was so clean, so pristine white, not a speck of dust or dirt was found anywhere. Our clothes were just as pristine white as the walls. Nowhere could any children toys, friendly front desk receptionist or nervous looking patients be found.
Most our faces were a reflection of calmness and peace. A few faces were reminiscent of smirks, smiles and just plain fear. Hands were clenched together, nails were being bitten but it still remained eerily silent.
I paused for a moment, as I wondered what time it was. But time had no concept here. I had no recollection if only minutes or years had passed. The line ahead of me was just becoming shorter.
The large, double doors reflected off the back walls. The doors were made of a stunning mahogany, elegantly embroidered with gold around the frame. Two magnificent angels standing at least seven feet tall, with a wing just as long and radiating with a bright light stood guarding the doors. They were leading people into the doors but they were letting no one out.
I gulped. My hands were shaking, my forehead was sweating and my knees clattered together. I paused; did I really have anything to fear? My mind wandered to a quote I had heard and seen so many times on earth.
It was something about, how life had many choices but eternity only had two. The parable of the sheep and goats was being revealed before my eyes. When you entered through the door, your eternal destination was behind it and so was our judge.
In a few moments of my rambling thoughts, I now stood alone at the front of the line. It was my turn, my time next.
A gentle hand gripped my shoulder. I gazed to his face.
He quietly whispered, “It is time.”
He led me to the doors, gently knocked and the doors opened as if one their own. I stepped into blackness and the overwhelming, blinding light. My hands reached to shield my face and my eyes peeking through my fingers. Ahead of me was where the light appeared from. It was HIM.
It was my Savior. I fell to my knees, echoing the words of the apostle Peter, “My Lord and my God.”
“Stand, it is time, “his voice roaring as the sound of rushing waters.
I stood and looked facing my Lord. He was the perfect image as described in Revelation. Though its words could do him no justice. His eyes penetrated every part of my soul, nothing was hidden not even my fear. My eyes could not turn away from his blazing glory. My mouth held agape in utter ah.
His hands motioned for me forward. My feet stumbled as if it was their first time taking just baby steps.
My eyes slowly began growing accustomed to the brilliance of the Lord. I glanced around noticing several shelves holding very thick books. I did a double take as I noticed each book was bound with my name. This was the library of my life. I shuddered as I realized that every word spoken, every deed done and left undone and every thought of mine filled these pages.
The overwhelming guilt and the shame were too almost too much for me to endure. I didn’t deserve to be standing here in his presence worshipping and
calling him Lord.
My feet stopped, my knees brought me to the floor and my face to the ground as the tears fell from my eyes.
An opened book was placed before my e the same. He closed the book for a moment and reopened yes. I gasped the page was completely blank and each page after was also blank. He pointed to the blank pages once again. Sprawled across in blood it read: PAID IN FULL.
I whispered a prayer of thanksgiving and then entered into eternity.
