She raised 6 children (one amazing daughter and 5 rather unruly boys). She dealt with a husband that was…let’s just say, he was less than supportive, yet her loyalty to him never wavered. They were married over 50 years when he passed.
Mom could whip up a mouth-watering meal from meager staples and never let us know that her cupboards were bare.
She shopped Goodwill and Salvation Army to clothe her children. She washed in a wringer washer and dried our clothes outdoors on the clothes line…even in winter.
She lived in houses with no running water and no bathroom and never complained. Okay, that’s not exactly true. Mom did complain – a lot. But then, she had a lot to complain about. Still she never shirked her motherly duties - although she did threaten to change her name many times. I guess six kids yelling, “Mooo-ooom!” all day would get monotonous, but seriously, did she ever stop to think that her shouting “Shut the door!” a million times a day wasn’t annoying?
Anyway, back to my tribute to Mom. How do you measure the worth of a woman?
You remember that she never left you and never stopped loving you. Through all the days when we drove her crazy and all the times when she had to give up what she wanted in order give her children what they needed, you realize that there really is no way to measure the worth of a woman.
