Rudolph was born the most beautiful of all reindeer. In fact, his beauty was so great that when God first saw him He blessed him with a kiss on the nose, and from that time on Rudolph sported a very bright and shiny red schnozzle.

His mother thought him very special to have been blessed with such a nose. His father was somewhat bewildered, but he loved his son anyway. As a little reindeer Rudolph was admired for his glowing nose. So admired, in fact, that the other young reindeer grew jealous and taunted him.

Rudolph loved to run and play with the others, but they shunned him as he grew older. They would all play hide and seek in the woods, but the other reindeer would either tell Rudolph to go and hide and never bother to look for him, or simply ignore him altogether.

One day news came that Santa Claus was looking for a new team of reindeer to fly him all over the world on Christmas Eve. Rudolph and several other reindeer were of just the right age at the time to become sleigh flyers.

Rudolph’s greatest dream had always been to become one of Santa’s reindeer. He had an adventurous spirit, and longed deeply to be one of a team. He just knew the other reindeer would accept him then, and he wouldn’t feel so lonely.

A few days later, Santa came to pick his new flyers. He looked over the field of reindeer and began calling out names.

“Dasher! Dancer! Prancer! Comet! Vixen! Cupid! Dunder! Blixem!"

Rudolph‘s name wasn’t called. As he hung his head with disappointment and tears in his eyes, Vixen looked at him haughtily and said, “You should have known he wouldn’t choose you and your silly red nose!”

For the next two years Rudolph led a lonely life on the reindeer fields in the artic, mourning the fact he couldn’t fly with Santa and his sleigh. Not even the other sleigh flyer wannabes would include him in their team play.

Then one Christmas Eve, the bitter cold turned into a thick fog. So thick, in fact, Santa’s reindeer could barely see two feet in front of themselves. All at once there stood before Rudolph a man in a red suit, and lo and behold, it was Santa Claus!

“Rudolph, I need you and your shiny nose.” Santa said. “Please, will you come light the way for my sleigh to fly?”

Rudolph jumped with joy and ran with Santa to where his sleigh was parked. Santa made him the lead reindeer and when the team took off there was a light bright enough to see for miles shining from Rudolph’s red nose.

After all the presents had been delivered to the children around the world, the other reindeer gathered around Rudolph and praised him and his nose. Now they all loved him. They called him a hero and invited him to play tag with them.

Rudolph’s very shiny nose had just saved Christmas, and it was a game changer…

Ha! What a great take on the topic. I love the story of Rudolph and the comparative idea that God uses the "unlikely" to accomplish His purpose. Nicely done!

You wrote the story very well and made it real to the reader. Sometimes with a really well-known story, it's more out-of-the-box to take one aspect of the story and make it your own, by either focusing on one part of the story that's glossed over or detailing a minor character. Leaving out the names to give the reader clues but not outright saying who you're describing is also a nice tactic to help the reader connect with your story - figuring it out, so to speak. I think you did a great job with the writing, though, and it was a good tie-in to the topic. :)

This is a really sweet retelling of the classic story. I enjoyed it quite a bit and it's so true in the world today what being ostracized by family and friends can do to a person. We may never fully understand the reasoning behind the tragedies in the news but you did a nice job of relating this to the world today. It also transported me back to my childhood and the delight of the cartoon. I'll even watch it now as an adult. :)Congratulations on ranking 6th in level three and ranking 14 overall!
