Embarrassed to speak up.
I knew he was innocent of the crime that was charged.
My cowardice was real.
The fire was warm so I huddled around.
A young girl talked to me.
Aren’t you the friend who I saw walking with him?
My denial showed my shame.
I remembered a few years back to my fishing days.
A simple life it seemed.
Time spent at sea casting nets in the water.
In my “nothing” box.
Suddenly this man approached my brother and I.
His call we listened to.
I didn’t understand why but we left all that day.
The future so unclear.
I watched this man do unbelievable things.
Could he be the “one”?
Thousands were fed and the sick were healed.
Why couldn’t I do that?
Why has that cock crowed three times now?
Fear gripped my heart.
In the midst of my pride he told me this would happen.
Say it isn’t so.
I watched as they beat him within an inch of his life.
Some friend I am.
He’d done nothing but good but was hated by most.
Did I hate him too?
After his murder He appeared in real life.
Death could not hold Him.
He looked at me with compassion in His eyes.
Feed My sheep.

What a fresh perspective on Peter's mindset as he warms himself by the fire that way when he denied the Lord. I enjoyed the honest and very realistic look at his humanity.
Very thought provoking and well written. Very nice work!
