“But what’s a blog?” tech-depraved students asked
“For some, their inner thoughts are shared
While others write of things they’ve dared
Hobbies or special interests may peak
A reader’s following in forthcoming weeks
Pay attention, here’s how you’ll create
A simple blog without mistakes”
An oversized screen showed each simple step
Even personal touches required no depth
Of training, no--not even one degree
And the best part of all-it’s totally free
Shy Emma was truly excited at first
She chose as her topic, a most favored verse*
Around it she scripted a story in truth
A miracle God gave to her sister, Ruth
She told of the riptide--her fears Ruth would drown
How God made sure He had a lifeguard around
Ruth battled the waves till her limbs became numb
Exhaustion was winning, she felt she’d succumb
When she was plunked on the saving surfboard
Ruth wasn’t too weak to first thank her Lord
The rebellious currents would not boast disaster
They gave up their victim--all praise to her Master
Emma was pleased with her posting now finished
But unprepared for her joy to diminish
Some scoffers left comments that quickly deflated
Her innocent heart--it knew nothing of hatred
Under attack, eyes stinging with tears
Self-confidence gone, up rose her fears
What will Miss Joyce and the other kids think
Will they laugh and make jokes--tears fell between blinks
Searching her Bible, she was led to a page
Words were recorded by a prophet, a sage
God has not given us a spirit of fear. . .**
When she finished the verse, the message was clear.
*Psalm 121:8 (NLT) The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.
**2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Author's Note: The near-drowning part actually happened to my 16 year old grandson just three weeks ago. We are praising God for watching over him that day and always.

I liked the poem format, for the most part, but I thought it was a bit odd that the teacher was talking in rhyme... Unless there's a specific reason ("The Cat and the Hat," for instance) I find it odd for people to talk in rhyming poems. But that's just me. :)
I liked this a lot. And I also hate the... hatred that can come out in blog responses. I find myself using those responses to pray for the people who posted them.
