TREASURE- HOUSEOF GOD
“And to the Angel of the church in Philadelphia write; these things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth and no man closeth, and shutteth and no man openeth; (Revelation 3:7)
The verse before us has another application other than open and closed doors. More specifically God is referring to the treasure house of David in the Old Testament. There was a servant named Eliakim who was given responsibility to the treasure house of David. Anyone needing access to this had to go through Eliakim. Here it is a sense in which Eliakim was a type of Christ for we see in this verse that it was not Eliakim who holds the key of David but it was Jesus. That is an important meaning of the text. Jesus, and John chapter 14 verse six said I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh to the father but by me. ‘It is through Jesus Christ that we receive the gift of eternal life and we receive also the gift of an abundant life (John 10:10.)
There are several things of which this verse reminds us. First, there is a heaven to gain to those who were faithful and Jesus is the door and the way into that heaven. Second that promise of heaven is available to all who trust Jesus as Lord and Savior of their lives. Finally, the verse tells us of a responsibility that we have as partakers in the kingdom of God. It speaks of our responsibility, about having access to this treasure; we are to share it with others. How shall those without Christ know about the blessing that is available unless someone is there to teach them and show them the way?
Paul the apostle exhorts us with these words,” how shall they hear without a preacher, how shall they believe unless they hear, how shall they hear unless they are sent? (Romans chapter 10: 15, 16)
Finally, finally, this message is a message addressed to the faithful followers of Jesus at the church of Philadelphia. It’s a promise to them that because of their faithfulness the doors of heaven are accessible to them for any need that they may have. God
Himself opens the doors per our need and closes them to keep us safe.
