THE PROBLEM WITH DOORS
“And to the Angel of the church in Philadelphia write; these things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth and no man closeth, and shutteth and no man openeth; (Revelation 3:7)
Christ continues this address by declaring that it is "He who holds the key can open and close doors." Now that is something to think about. Consider throughout life how often we have tried to make our own doors and became disappointed when they closed. Bill Gothard’s seminars on Christian living, speaks of “a birth of a vision” and “the death of a vision.” These experiences usually result in clear understanding. Sometimes we get discouraged and give up trying when in fact God's timing and provision have not yet happened. It doesn't mean that the doors are closed permanently. It means we just persevere and keep trying until God opens the door that He wants us to go through. Closed doors may be necessary to keep us patient, and prayerful in our attempts to do his will.
Lately, these verses have been a great deal of encouragement to me as I recognize who is in control of my circumstances. Fortunately, it is not me. In these seemingly unfruitful times, there are many lessons that must be learned and time is needed for us to gain understanding. If you become discouraged by the close doors that you are facing, keep hoping, and keep believing that God is in the process of opening other doors.
Remember from this then, that it is God who opens and closes doors. We are not to give up or be in despair but hope for God's newer light and clearer understanding. Eventually, that venture that we thought was so important will be replaced by newer opportunities.
