SHE WAS FAITHFUL TO HER FOCUS The Faithful Church
“And to the Angel of the church in Philadelphia write; these things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth and no man closeth, and shutteth and no man openeth; (Revelation 3:7)
The church at Philadelphia is the second of the two churches that are found faithful. And although they are similar in this way they are altogether different. The church at Smyrna went through intense suffering and persevered. Conversely, the church of Philadelphia had only a little persecution. The persecution that Philadelphia faced was like Smyrna in that they were attacked by unbelieving Jews. Other than that, they experienced open doors and victory.
There may be the temptation to charge God with being unfair; however, God does not operate based on fairness. Because God treats one person different than another does not mean that God is unfair or even unjust. Our opening statement tells us that he is true and that he is holy and that is the basis upon which God operates. When we decide to follow Jesus, we do so without reservation, not knowing what the outcome of our faithfulness will be. Remember Abraham when he was called, it is stated that he went and obeyed not knowing what the outcome was going to be.God is incapable of being unjust and deceitful. He cannot lie because He has no reason to. He has no sin to cover or lies to use to get us to do His will. When He calls, He knows best and He promises to be with us. The call of Jeremiah is a perfect example of God’s promise to his servants. It is significant that God opens this message to Philadelphia with the word of encouragement that enables them to press on when things get tough
