THE BLESSING
OF A TRANSPARENT LIFE
“I know thy works: behold, I have set before the end open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, MS kept my word, MS not denied my name.” (Revelation 3:8)
Recently, I read a statement that said, that “the secret of true holiness can be measured by what I am by myself in the presence of God” Our verse confirms that fact. God says,” I know thy works.” What an awesome fact it is to consider that I am seen by God? He sees me wherever I am, whatever I do, whatever I look upon, whatever I think about, and my relationships with other people. And what a goal it could be if I could arrange my life in such a way that I am always transparent first before God and before others. The world lives in the state of constant pretense and superficiality. Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount that we are to let our light shine and that means glowing forth the brilliance of the light of Christ in me. Perhaps we may view this transparency as the first stage in receiving the next blessing namely, open doors.
Have you had any problem with closed doors? Closed doors are often the call to us to do some soul-searching. But that is not always so. Sometimes closed doors are God’s will or closed doors tell us that the time is not yet ready. Closed doors teach us how to trust God when it seems like everything is at a dead end. We must remember, however, that it is God who opens and closes doors and we need to trust Him when those doors aren’t opened.
Next, Jesus reminds them that he knows about their little strength. Paul the apostle once made the statement that when he is weak then he is strong. Sometimes we are too big for God to use but in the case of Philadelphia, their little strength is an indication that they are not trusting in themselves.
Finally, God reminds them of two important principles that they have been faithful to keep. First, they have kept his word; that means they have read it, they have believed it, and have obeyed. Second, he says they have not denied his name. The name above all names, for which the martyrs have laid down their lives, they have not failed to be identified with that name but have boldly and constantly proclaimed it.
As we have reviewed these principles, have you taken inventory of your life? We can claim these promises when we are faithful.
