TITLE: He saved me

“Honey hurry come here!” my husband yelled out to me one night as I lay relaxed in my bed. “Wha…t.” I whined not wanting to be bothered. “Come here, …please.” He pressed. I slowly got out of bed and dragged myself to our bedroom bathroom thinking, “This better be really something.” “What is it?” I asked wearily opening the bathroom door. He stood in the middle of the floor pointing up over the bathroom door. As I looked up I could see a huge granddaddy spider over the door slowly crawling. I sucked my teeth and walked out of the bathroom. “Where are you going?” he asked. I continued on into the kitchen not saying a word. I came back with a broom. I reached up and with one good swing granddaddy’s life came to an end. “Oh you’re my hero!” He said with a smile. I sucked my teeth again and laughed.

Most people would associate heroes with a person that is famous, well known to the public or someone they’ve read about. You don’t have to be neither to be a hero. Heroes are admired for their bravery and or accomplishments that have affected another person(s) life in a positive manner. We have loved ones fighting a war in a foreign country. We have firefighters saving lives from burning buildings. We have utility workers saving cats from trees. We have the citizen’s that catches the mugger and holds them captive until the policemen arrive. We have the Boy Scouts that helps the old elderly across the street. This means you could be a mother, father, brother, sister, spouse, (you get the picture) to be considered a hero.

There is a song that states, “A hero lies in you.” Let us not be fooled into thinking that we are heroes on our own though. Don’t pat yourselves on the back when your day is done without recognizing the hero of all heroes. The “Super Hero.” He doesn’t wear an S on his chest. But he can leap tall buildings in a single bound. He can also stop a speeding bullet. He carried a cross on his back. He died for us. He saved my life. He lives again and now he carries the world on his back. The Super Hero, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who has made us heroes.
