Betraying means turning your back on someone. Usually this is someone you know and have had close contact with. They begin a relationship, gain the trust of the person, lie about things to them, then leave them in the dark.
Sometimes the betrayer is a close friend, family member, spouse, or business partner. Other possiblities are people you see regularly but don't know very well. For example a co-worker who knows you are up for a position, but does everything they can to get the promotion.
Being betrayed is the ultimate heart break. You thought you knew the person, or trusted them in some way, and the next thing you know, they have pulled the rug out from under you. It's not an easy thing to go through.
I believe in being honest at all costs. I would rather make someone angry, let them get over it, and then move on. Instead of betraying them, lying, or trying to cover something up and letting it come out in the open later. That hurts just as bad, if not worse to find out later that you've been lied to.
Betrayal is not a good thing. It's my hope that you are never betrayed, and you think twice before you do it to someone. Trust is very important in any relationship. Without trust, you don't have much. Stand up for your beliefs and be honest like Jesus was. He should be who we are patterning our lives after.
