2 Corinthians 1:21-22
Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

HE MADE A DEPOSIT

We have all been claimed. We have been anointed. The seal of God is on each of us, for he is our creator. If the gift of life weren’t enough of a gift, he also made a deposit directly to our hearts. He filled them with his Spirit so we would not forget what is to come. He has promised our eternal future. Can we keep our promises to him?

The future just ahead of us as we live this mortal existence can be fraught with potholes. Sometimes we’d swear someone made the road rocky on purpose, took a jackhammer to it, and destroyed it just before we got to the bend in the road. We can all be tempted to hitch a ride with someone who has a bigger car than ours, one that looks like it can sail over the potholes, one that skirts trouble and leads us to worldly pleasure.

If we give in and take that ride, has it really made the journey sweeter? Has it brightened the light shining in our hearts? What has it done to our promises? You’ve heard the cliché, “no one gets a free ride.” It’s true. Trying to deceive, to keep from accepting the life you have, won’t help. At the end of the ride, you’ll see that path only leads to a world of broken promises.

The road might be tough, but each time we roll through another pothole, our hearts get that much lighter, and the light in them glows a little brighter. Because if you keep your promises to God and walk the path he’s given you, he’ll keep his promises to you. After all, he’s already made a deposit.

Dear God,
Please give me the strength and desire to keep my promises to you. Help me to roll through the potholes in the road and find the journey is worth it when I reach the end of the path and find you waiting. I know you’ll keep your promise, because you’re already shining in my heart.
