TITLE: The Promises You Make By Val Walters 02/12/04 |

Always said with a smile
Flashed appropriately.
Deceptions hidden within.
“I will be there;” or
“Don’t forget the time.”
Etched in my young heart,
Those promises laid broken.
Waiting. I waited.
For you to appear.
Waiting. I waited.
Why weren’t you there?
Those years were many;
Kept promises, few.
Who were they for?
Still unsure. Still untrue.
But, in a moment things changed.
No longer I who sought you.
Because the desire became yours.
And you eventually came.
Yes, now I see you
As a child left alone;
Waiting on promises
That remain unfulfilled.
So, forgiveness is the cure;
And time a true healer.
New promises made;
But by Him who is True.
The promises You make
Have never been broken.
And they are always accepted,
By a child who believes.
