LORD, WHY CAN I NOT HEAR YOU?
ARE YOU DOGGEDLY SILENT AND STILL.
LORD, I NEED TO KNOW WHAT TO DO!
LORD, I AM SHOUTING TO KNOW YOUR WILL.
LORD, I AM BELLOWING OUT FOR RELIEF.
LORD, I AM SHRIEKING OUT FROM MY GRIEF.
LORD, PLEASE RESPONSE TO ME SOMEHOW.
LORD, WHY ARE YOU HIDING FROM ME NOW?
~
I am not hiding nor do I conceal,
I have been attempting to reveal
My blessing as well as my reply,
But I need quiet in order to apply,
The solution you’re searching for.
I am not found in a thunder’s roar,
I am found in the still small voice,
Whispered in your heart, so rejoice!
Be still, knowing that I am God,
I shun boisterous and noisy façade.
Quiet moments are when I speak,
For I am unparalleled and unique.

….a sound of a gentle blowing. 1Kings 19:11-13
Do you know the best way to get the attention of a group? Speak in a whisper. I taught for fifteen years and this was the best piece of advice. It literally worked every time. I used it to the max. When the kids got out carried away with exuberance, I would speak in a whisper, as if it were perfectly normal to do. Soon one by one the children would stop their talking and turn their attention to me and soon the classroom decorum was restored.
God invented that system, not I. He uses it very competently. If He wants to get our undivided individual attention, He whispers. He speaks softly and tenderly in the depth of our heart. He taps into our tenderness. He cultivates our mercy. He spawns our passion. He does it in such a way that if we are not focused on Him, we could actually believe that we were the originators of such righteousness. When He is our soul focus, we know that only He is the great creator, that only He orchestrates such kindness. Oh, He is definitely found in the roar of the wind, since He also created the wind, but most often He is found in the whisper. Listen. Can you hear Him?
