Last night, I decided, I didn't want dinner-
At this game, I'm just a beginner.
I told Mom and Dad I didn't want to eat-
Anything - except a treat.
The food, on my plate, I wouldn't touch-
Even though, it wasn't very much.
I just knew getting treats would be a breeze-
That Mom and Dad would give in with ease.
However, as time started to go by,
I began to fuss and cry.
As my stomach got more empty,
I started trying to get some sympathy.
Mom, I was sure, wanted to give in-
I knew, with her, I could win.
Dad, however, was a different story-
Even though, I am his glory.
All my tears couldn't wear him down-
He just, firmly, stood his ground.
Soon, it was, almost, time to go to bed
And I, still, had not been fed.
I tried to be as smooth as silk-
I asked to have some chocolate milk.
But, Mom and Dad, I could not fool-
Chocolate milk would break the rule.
My attitude began to change
As my little stomach was feeling strange.
I was beginning to run out of fight
In this battle of will and might.
At last, I realized I couldn't win-
So, I decided to give in.
Mom and Dad gave me back my plate-
This time, I gobbled - I didn't hesitate.
I wonder if I'll try, another day,
To break a rule and get my own way?
Right now, though, as my food tastes good-
I'm behaving like I should.
