She packed her bag and took one more look around the room she had shared with her husband for 12 years. Now with him gone she could not afford to keep the house she had come to love as the home they built. The home that they had began to raise their daughter in, although there was a lot more raising to do for Lola was only eight. Now she was going to have to raise her alone. Her husband’s death had hit them very hard. She had put her life in his hands and he had left them with nothing. Sure there was life insurance, but it didn’t begin to cover the debts he had accumulated in the past 12 years. Debts she had known nothing about. For her life had always felt perfect. She had a great house, the ability to stay at home with Lola, because Chad had insisted that she not work. She drove a good car and they took a wonderful vacation every year. They also attended a great church. Her husband was apart of the leadership of the church. She was so proud of him. He just excelled at everthing he ever put his heart to. And he gave so much back to the community, through his role in the church. Yeah to the outside world, they led rich full lives. Oh how she had loved him. He made her feel safe and cared for. He had left them with nothing. No money, no house and a boat load of bad debts that she didn’t know how she could ever pay. She was going to have to take her daughter out of the school that she loved, because the tuition was now laughable. She couldn’t bare the loss all at once. It was overwhelming to her and she hit her knees sobbing. Lola came into the room, “Mommy why are you crying?” She pulled Lola into her arms and told her that she was crying because Daddy was gone and he had left them poor. Lola looked up at her with her big brown eyes and said something that would change her life forever. “Mommy we could never be poor. We have Jesus in our hearts and he makes us richer then we could ever be.” She held on to her tighter and sobbing asked her who told her that. “Daddy, right before he went to heaven.”
