So spontaneously surging
From mind razor-sharp,
That always is gurgling
With plummeting paradox
Fit for most ears.
Make me laugh with your words;
You can bring me to tears!
Make me laugh with your nonsense
A childlike approach
That announces its presence
Without pause or boast
And engages those most
Like a child to begin.
Make me laugh with your nonsense;
You’ve taken me in!
Make me laugh with your body;
A Steve Martin dance
That is so far from rhythm
It fixes my trance.
And there was that time of
The vertical leap—
Make me laugh with your body;
Your laughs don’t come cheap!
Make me laugh with your laughter,
A gift from above
That allows me to see
We’re connected in love,
For the wavelength is stranger
Than most would tune in.
Make me laugh with your laughter,
It tickles my skin!
Make me laugh with your satire
So curiously uncold
That it points out flawed reason
Without being bold,
Yet somehow communicates
All left unsaid.
Make me laugh with your satire,
Then send me to bed!
—For my husband, Greg, who never ceases to keep me in laughter! He truly is a gift from God to me, for he’s the one who taught me to laugh, when family and friends took a more somber tone. Thanks, God, for the gift of Greg and laughter! And thanks, Greg, for sprinkling laughter liberally through our lives. How wonderful the season!
(The vertical leap story is a great one! Ask me about it sometime!)
