Tears flow from our eyes when we cry because they contain chemicals and hormones produced by our bodies.
When we become upset, our brains and bodies overreact and work overtime by producing chemicals and hormones.
Crying helps eliminate these extra chemicals that we don't need.
The chemicals and hormones disappear from our body through the form of tears. As our tears flow, they soothe our sadness or distress by withdrawing these chemical agents.
That is why many people feel calmer or more refreshed after crying--because the tears get rid of these hormones that are produced when we are sad, happy, or distressed.
The bible mentions tears about 35 times.
God is moved by tears. On several occasions he healed, delivered, saved and set people free because of their tears.
In 2 Kings 20:5 it tells us that because of Hezekiahs tears God healed him. "Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD."
In Esther 8:3 we read how God helped save the Jews by the tears of Esther as she cried before the king.
And Esther spake yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and besought him with tears to put away the mischief of Haman the Agagite, and his device that he had devised against the Jews.
God designed our bodies so wonderfully that tears were one of His best designs.
They are wonderful stress relievers.
We have a promise in Revelations 7:17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.
Also Revelations 21:4 says And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
I'm looking forward to that day.
No more crying over there. This song sums it up for me.
What A Day That Will Be
Words and Music: Jim Hill
There is coming a day,
When no heart aches shall come,
No more clouds in the sky,
No more tears to dim the eye,
All is peace forever more,
On that happy golden shore,
What a day, glorious day that will be.
What a day that will be,
When my Jesus I shall see,
And I look upon His face,
The One who saved me by His grace;
When He takes me by the hand,
And leads me through the Promised Land,
What a day, glorious day that will be.
There'll be no sorrow there,
No more burdens to bear,
No more sickness, no pain,
No more parting over there;
And forever I will be,
With the One who died for me,
What a day, glorious day that will be.
What a day that will be,
When my Jesus I shall see,
And I look upon His face,
The One who saved me by His grace;
When He takes me by the hand,
And leads me through the Promised Land,
What a day, glorious day that will be.
