Is this all there is? Am I destined to live or die? Then, unexpectedly, as if from nowhere it comes. Slowly at first, then increasing more and more. Once again I stretch out my arms trying to bring it closer to me. I cry out for it to bathe me in the life-giving force that comes from above.
It consumes me; I rest in the overwhelming strength it brings to me. My soul is refreshed, and once again I have the will to continue. My journey takes me through more darkness, more uncertainty and the ever-present urge to reach beyond where I am. Finally, I break through the darkness. The light caresses me as I emerge into its warmth. Far above the light shines, and soon, very soon the thing I need so much will again begin to fall.
This seems to be an attempt to give a personality to something that has none. At the very least it delves into the feelings of a seed thirsting for life-giving rain. Considering a different viewpoint however it serves as an interesting outlook on the Christian walk. We do start out in the dark! We do have to cry out to God for the living water. Without it we would wither in the drought of this world. Once the seed is sown the Holy Spirit rains down to water it, and the only result that can occur is growth.
Once we break through the darkness and allow God’s light to shine upon us we can grow. In time however, we will again thirst, and seek anew that life-giving water that rains down from the well of everlasting life.
