In my travels I have witnessed a multitude of incidences of “breaking the rules” on interstate highways that never cease to amaze me. I cannot understand the mindset of those people who jeopardize their lives and the lives of others to arrive at their destination a few minutes quicker.
Being on the road several hours a day has given me a lot of time to analyze the culture which I have been placed in and I have come to the conclusion that the behaviors of people on the highway is not unlike the behaviors we encounter in everyday life.
Those who zip in and out of traffic, tailgating and driving at excessive speeds with no concern for their fellow travelers are the same people who; will break in line at a movie theater, cheat on their taxes, take what doesn’t belong to them and walk over the weak and defenseless.
While my analysis is a generalization and I realize that some of these people are just ignorant of what’s right and wrong, safe and hazardous...such as those whom I have seen reading the newspaper and books while driving ...the outcome is the same. Breaking the rules opens the door for catastrophe and ruin to enter in.
“Rules were made to be broken” is a platitude that has accelerated the demoralization of America and at no time in history has this ever been so prevalent as it is now.
This is not what God intended for His people. He has a whole book of rules that, if we follow them, will make us successful, content, happy and productive. Learning and following God’s rules is our responsibility...the rewards of doing so, is God’s.
