Church should be a place where we can worship and adore God . Yet, sometimes I feel that the people of God as well as the Pastor labels. People can label by the clothes they one wears, or by their educational achievements. Well, let me say some pastors label by the amount of money each member gives. Let’s just be honest. Even in God’s church labeling can be more prevalent. Yet, what I don’t understand that if we are God’s children then we know that labeling is wrong.
James 2: 1 says, “My Friends, if you have faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, you won’t treat some people better than others.” The bible is clearly instructed us that favoritism (labeling) is wrong. When we see someone driving a Lexus we label them as having money. On the other hand, when we see someone driving a van the label that we may possibly place is that they are living paycheck. Actually in either situations it could very well be that the opposites are true, the Lexus driving individual may be living from paycheck to paycheck and the van user may have money. Yet, labels cloud our thinking and we become bias in our perspective of people.
I have to admit that I struggle immensely with labeling individuals from a different culture other than mine. Sometimes I think my struggle is borderline prejudice and labeling. Both are completely wrong and it takes prayer and effort to dispel those elements. Labeling isn’t accepted by God and if his Word spoke against it then we must (as his children) confess and forsake that behavior.
