As I sit and ponder,
“Lord what should I say?”
My heart breaking.
“Give me words,” I pray.
The pain she’s expressing,
Evident in her eyes.
How do I ease,
Her current demise.
She speaks of death.
She speaks of sorrow.
Her voice echoing,
No hope for tomorrow.
I sit and listen,
Having the answer within.
Give the words in love,
Not heaping on her sin.
“God can ease your pain.”
Hope I said it right.
She gives me this look,
Ready to take flight.
Go to my car,
Remembering I brought-
A book about Jesus.
Who would have thought?
I find her,
Walking away.
Handing her the book-
“For you I’ll pray.”
Her face lights up,
Something moves.
If not today,
Maybe soon.
“Oh Lord,
Could I not say more?”
Given the full gospel?
My head hangs to the floor.
“What did you do?”
He whispers silently.
“You pointed the way,
The rest is up to Me.”
They stand at my door.
Hours I have spent.
Giving them Your scriptures,
Angry away, they went.
I spoke in love.
Your power evident.
They will not believe!
My clothes I want to rent.
“Peace my child,
You have given them the keys.
You pointed the way,
The rest is up to Me.”
Hopeful words,
Written on in rhyme.
Do they see the message?
Maybe not this time.
So I question,
“Did I do it right?”
“You gave them the Truth.”
He whispers in the night.
Prayer.
The last thing I can do.
Maybe one will water;
The rest is up to "you".
