He couldn't get up and out to worship service so worship service was right in his living room every Sunday morning.
The old hymns would gently float through the air. A friend of his who was a disc jockey on the only radio station in town would come by and drop off some of the tapes for him during the upcoming week. He knew those would bring him comfort when the going got tough.
As the family came to the Sunday dinner table, he was always the first one to bow his head and labored his stuttering thank-you to his Lord for the meal before them. There had been times in his POW days when home and family were only in his dreams.
He remained at the head of the family uttering every grace to his Lord for as long as he could talk, thanking his Lord for what he had. Some days he would just sit to the kitchen table with a cup of coffee, his head in his hands, rubbing his forehead trying to erase the memories that never dimmed.
Every night at bedtime you could see him through the crack in the half shut door, see his body bent over the side of the bed, head in his hands, on his knees thanking his Lord. A grown man on his knees in worship to his Lord at the end of his day.
When he went in the hospital, he would say,"Sing me that hymn or read me that scripture," for he no longer had the strength and he no longer could see the
words that were forever in his heart.
I can see him now in heaven, dancing, worshipping his Lord for he now has a new body. He's no longer holding his head to fight the demons of this earth for they have been defeated by his humble worship of his Lord. His heart of worship has entered the heavenly gates.
Psalm 85: 6-7
"Oh come, let us worship and bow down.
Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For He is our God.
And we are the people of His pasture.
And the sheep of His hand.
