It is no surprise that many are drawing out resolutions for the new year- usually called the New Year’s resolution.
But the question is- can one really stand committed to these decisions? For the bible says: “…by strength shall no man prevail” (1sam2: 9)
To be firm in fulfilling them, I think one needs a watcher. A born again Christian has God’s word and the Holy Spirit as a watcher to our commitment. It all boils down to salvation-, which is the one and only resolution everyone on earth needs to make. It is a resolution that can last till eternity.
“When anyone is joined to Christ, he is a new being; the old is gone, the new has come.” (2corinth. 5:17).
Yet it is not a magical thing; it is not a once and for all affair. It is continuous. Which means, you are a “new being” as long as you remain in Him.
It says, “…so that everyone who believes…” (Jn. 3:16). Note the present continuous tense in “believes”, which shows continuity on our part.
Salvation calls for resolution, again and again and again…
The Holy Spirit’s got his own part, and we’ve got ours as well.
The resolution then should be: “…keep walking with fear and trembling to complete your salvation.” (Phil. 2:12).
