TITLE: Carest Thou Not That We Perish? By Carolyn Hughes 03/19/04 |
|
These are the words that were spoken by the disciples as a stormed ravaged the boat they were traveling in with Jesus. The winds blew furiously, the waters choppy and angry. It seemed as if they would perish, it seemed as if all hope was gone.
Carest thou not that we perish?
The boat rocked frantically, water lapped upon its sides demanding to be let in.
Carest thou not that we perish?
The dark sky hung thickly in the air. Visibility was poor – they shouted loudly to compete with the deafening torrents.
Carest thou not that we perish?
Fear gripped their hearts. Where was God? Where was Jesus, the one who said he could deliver…?
Then Jesus, who had been there all along – through the storm- the wind- the raging waters, stood up, and commanded the storm – “peace be still.”
And at that moment, the storm ceased.
And all was well.
Whenever the Lord says peace…
Your enemy becomes your footstool,
Whenever the Lord says peace…
That sickness must leave your body,
Whenever the Lord says peace…
The desires of your heart become reality,
Whenever the Lord says peace…
The situation is no longer a situation,
Whenever the Lord says peace…
There will be peace.
