TITLE: Our True Hero

What makes up a true hero? I believe heroes are made from ordinary people that do extraordinary things. Whether its our firefighters and policeman that continuously risk there lives for others, or our military men and women who fight to keep our country free from terrorism. The local teenager who on his weekends gives up partying to help an elderly lady do her grocery shopping or the volunteers that help at the rape crisis center are other kinds of heroes. Less threatening situations, but still powerful in their own way.
So what are the qualities that make up a true hero? Most of us would definitely put bravery and courage at the top of that list. Then maybe endurance, tenacity, and of course kindness and compassion. A love for humanity must also prevail for the urge to help to go undenied. We have all heard of incredible feats done in a crisis situation. Cars that have been lifted off people, inhuman strength to survive and save others. We are quick to praise the heroes of today and yesterday, recounting there heroic escapades with relish. How they put others before themselves and sacrificed, sometimes their very lives to save them.
But what of the person who gave the ultimate sacrifice? The man who shed His blood and was tortured willingly for are sins is often forgotten. The man who gave His life for all of mankind is often mocked at and made fun of. How can this be when Jesus was the biggest hero of all time? Even as Christians we can sometimes trivialize the facts of what He did for us. I challenge you today to really think of the love Jesus has for you that He would sacrifice His life for every one of us, that we might have eternal life. I know who my true hero is, do you?
