TITLE: Promises That Bind

"Mommy, you promised,"she heard her, usually pretty, daughter say again in that piercing, whining voice. Her face all pinced up in that pleading look and tugging on her arm. And, of course, again in the check-out line with everybody looking.
The mother leaned over and said,"The answer is NO. And, that's final!"
She tried to ponder over it rationally. I'm always looking out for her best interest. She just doesn't want to listen. It's never enough. I want to be a good parent. I want her to know that she can depend on me,that she can depend on my word. I'm building a foundation of trust that will last a lifetime. I wonder...did she misunderstand what I said?
"Oh, why is this line so long?" she thought out loud.
"MOMMY! You promised! Suzie has one, why can't I have one?'
Have you seen Suzie-she was thinking, oh, my gosh!?
How many times had her daughter pushed and pushed. How many times had her daughter just not listened? How many times had she done the same thing, and here we are again?

Jeremiah 25:7. , "Because you have not heard my words."
How many times do we say,"God, why me?
Why this, God? Why not now, God?
How many times do we really not understand what God has promised us? Do we read into God's promises what we want? How many times are we that immature child in the line of life, saying,"But, God, you promised?!"
Joel 2:13, "He is gracious,a and merciful, slow to anger and of great kindness."
What a wonderful Father, he is to us all.
I Kings 8:56, "Blessed be the Lord, who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that He promised through his servant Moses.
TO ALL THAT HE PROMISED.
Before his ascension, Jesus told his disciples in Acts 1:4, "wait for the Promise of the Father,which,He said, you have heard from Me."
WAIT!
In IIPeter 2:19,"While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage.
And, we keep going back to the same spot over and over again in life.
John 16:33, Jesus said, "These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation(thlipsis): but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
What wonderful promises that bind.......
