TITLE: I'm hungry By Carolyn Greene 11/14/04 |

Our family took their place around the table. Silence prevailed long enough to offer a blessing thanking God for his provisions. Then in a flurry of family and conversation plates and bowls were passed from person to person. I filled my plate, two large slices of roast beef, two large helpings of green beans, and a spoon of low carb spinach casserole. But my eyes remained fixed on the bread as it journeyed from person to person until it came to me. I held it in my hands. I inhaled its aroma. I looked. I lingered staring at the plate of golden bread before I passing it without taking a single slice. Dr. Atkins would be proud.
I heard a small voice whispering words of comfort and encouragement. I barely heard it at first, but with each moment it seemed to gather strength and volume. It’s words soothed my spirt, “ Man shall not live by bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.” The familiar verse fortified my will and strengthened my determination to remain on my low carbohydrate diet.
True I am hungry for a mouth watering slice of warm multi-grain french boule smothered in rich creamy butter. But I am even hungrier for God’s will. I long for his word to be fulfilled in my life! I exist on this low carb diet so that I might please him. I do not want my excess weight to be a stumbling block to others. I do not want poor heath to keep me from enjoying my husband and my children. I want to look good!
Yes, I am hungry! I am hungry for joy. I am hungry for life. I am hungry for God’s will to be done in my life!
