TITLE: Nonsenia By Amy E. Collins 11/01/04 |

The king’s loyal subjects of the kingdom of Nonsenia merely stared after their monarch, and held their tongues as they waited for his display of temper to subside. As of late, their king had grown impatient and willful, his temper quick to surface at the slightest mistake they made. But even with their monarch in such a state, the soldiers of Nonsenia were willing to do whatever it took to please their king.
And so the soldiers maintained their stance at attention, staring ahead as they awaited the return of the king. Within moments, the captain of the guard saw the king peek around the corner of the throne room’s door, and he smiled as he raised his sword in salute to his sovereign.
Meeting his gaze, the young king straightened up his crown, and began to walk into the room when a voice halted him, “Timothy, it’s almost bedtime. Get your toys put away, and get ready for bed.”
The young king disappeared around the door’s corner again with an “Aw, Mom!”
The captain of the guard knew that his king had gone to wage a battle with an enemy unseen, a battle that went on night after night but had yet to be won by young King Timothy the First. Still the captain did not order his men to ease their stance, and moment later; their sovereign reappeared accompanied by the queen mother.
The captain watched as all of his soldiers where picked up and placed in a large red wooden chest in the throne room’s corner by the queen mother before she turned to face the young king.
“Timmy, bed,” she repeated.
The young king had just finished pulling on his pajamas, and darted to the captain to pick him up. With the captain settled under small arm, King Timothy crawled into his bed, and ducked under the covers.
The queen mother sat on the bed, and gently pulled on the wooden soldier, “Now, Timmy, you know you’re not allowed to sleep with your toy.”
“But, Mom…”
“But nothing, young man, I don’t want you to roll over and poke your eye out on the captain’s sword,” she replied, pulling the solider away, while giving the young king a kiss. “Good night, sweetheart.”
The queen mother moves to place the captain in the chest but stops when the young king requests that he be left on the chest’s top to “watch over my dreams tonight.” The queen mother agrees, and set the captain down on the chest, facing his king whose dreams he is all too honored to watch over for the night.
So ends the night in the small kingdom of Nonsenia.
The End
