Just as our car battery needs to be recharged when it runs low, so do our spiritual batteries. Bible conferences, a good sermon, a bible study, can all help rejuvenate us and get our juices flowing again but nothing can invigorate us and prepare us like time spent alone with our heavenly Father. It was important to Jesus. It should be important to us. Alas, too often it isn't. Jesus made the effort to spend time alone with God. If there ever was a pattern set for us to follow, this is it.
We don't know the name of the mountain but I call it Mount Solitude and we all need one. Not all of us live by mountains or wilderness where we can go pray alone but we all need a place to get away from it all and spend time with our Father in heaven.
One thing that attracted us to our house when we were shopping several years back was a large detached garage. It has a second floor that has three sections. I claimed the third section as my own. My camping and fishing stuff go there along with whatever else of mine I want to use it for. It's my space. My wife and kids get the rest of it but the third section is mine. It's also my Mount Solitude, the place where I can go to be alone. When you have six children, privacy is hard to come by but I have a place.
Where do you go? Do you have a mountain, lake, or other outdoor spot to get apart to pray? Nothing beats privacy in God's creation for communion with the Father. Not all of us have that so we make do with what we have. Find your own Mount Solitude wherever you can and use it to get away and spend time with God. Jesus set the example. We need to follow. If you don't now, try it and you will be glad you did.
