TITLE: Just 'Cause We're Bitter By Autumn Conley 08/04/04 |
|
When young couples dine and dance
When the high school gym becomes a place
For allegedly innocent romance…
Yes, the prom…that rental store’s dream
When cummerbunds and lace are in style
When quarterbacks and cheerleaders
Can put on their biggest fake smile.
Oh, the prom…that parents’ worst fear
When their little girls and little guys, too
Will go to the school, and dance in the gym
And come home way after curfew.
Yes, the prom…a wallflower’s dread,
When everything sparkles like glitter
When those of us who didn’t get asked
Write poetry just ‘cause we’re bitter.
