While awaiting their daily ration
Several are dressed in the latest fashion
Few get the basics of what they need
So many children come to class
Over crowding does surpass
The numbers so exceed
No help for this child to succeed
Even with urban renewal
Children are still so cruel
Laughing at another's clothes and name
They become good at the game
Look in any school you choose
There will be those that muse
Learning to underplay
By diverting attention away
So many parent's on drugs
Responsibility they shrug
Lack of interest in the child
Let them go to run wild
The child they do betray,
By drinking alcohol everyday.
Violating their trust,
Sexual advances do disgust.
Secrets brought to school
Some smiles are meant to fool
Used as a pawn
Can never tell what goes on
The child hears the news,
Being so abused,
Beaten and bruised,
Must not accuse,
Elementary school is a place,
Where children should feel safe,
To get help when in need,
On this we can concede.
My prayer sent above
Is always to show children love
When I look into their face
God give me the needed grace
In this I poem I do assert
Let me help and never hurt
Never ever to self-doubt
Remember God will work it out
