TITLE: Rest My Soul

For Christians, there’s more to rest than sleep. Like seeing a rare bird outside the window, even the briefest sighting during a hectic day is enough to provide some relief to the world-worried mind. So why is it that I don’t take timeout during my busy day to draw from my source of peace and rest? For it’s during the whirlwind of the day that my restful nature is quickly swept away.

Jesus’ life was certainly not without its frustrations and stresses. With a packed itinerary, his were demanding customers consisting of every imaginable type and temperament. But within Jesus was a well so deep that it cooled His mind and nourished His Spirit. The well, a cistern of love so unquenchable and satisfying that the turmoil without couldn’t stop it up.

Rest in one’s spirit comes not just from knowing His love, but from receiving it. Think of that the next time your job, or your school, your health or whatever seems to be closing in around you. Look to the wells of refreshing that lie within you where love endures all. Those are calming waters.

I’ve come to cherish the quietness of soul that embodies a restful spirit, and recognize my need to stop and take sips as I go about my day. It doesn’t take much to feel refreshed. Peace and rest are readily available for any soul who will drink from the well of God’s love. So take a moment for some refreshment and rest a while in Him.
