My wife and I were talking this morning and she was telling me her thoughts on light. She pointed out to me, that we only see color because of light and so I pointed out to her, something I am sure she already knew, that the last true color you see at night, is the sun as it slips behind the horizon and hides from our sight. Haven’t you stood and marveled at the brilliant colors that array our skies some nights. I think that is God’s way of letting us know that He is the true light and He is that one which reveals true color.
I have read extensively behind Dr. Raymond Moody and Dr. Elizabeth Kublar Ross, for both of them have dealt extensively with what are called, “Near Death” experiences. Most of the research material that I have studied indicates that when a person has this experience, one thing they almost all have in common is seeing a “Light”. For Jewish people, it is an angel. For the Christian, it is Christ. For the unbeliever, it is a Being of Light, but almost everyone sees Light.
Have you ever noticed that following the dark rolling clouds of a storm, there is the rainbow with its spectrum of color, visible? From these three thoughts I have drawn several conclusions.
1. God is Light. Boy, that is a new thought isn’t it? The Bible has been saying that for over 200 centuries. That God is light and men love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil.
2. God reveals true color. What I mean by that is this, without light there is no color. Watch in the evening as the sun fades in the west, the trees lose their green, the water loses its blue, and everything becomes a dull, dark gray until it becomes black. Many people reject God because they think they will lose the joy of life, that His demands take the fun out of life but what He does is add color and make our living more beautiful.
3. God always has the last say.
a. The Rainbow reminds us that there will be storms, but at the end of the storm is a promise for those who walk with God, a promise of color that will remind us of His presence during those difficult times.
b. The Sunset, which is the last light of the day, as it emblazons the sky with its multitude of colors, remind us of the “Trueness” of God in all things. The last true color you see is in the sky.
c. The light in the tunnel for the “near dead”, reminds us that the last thing we will do in this life is stand before The Light, to be judged by how we have responded to the light. The Apostle John reminds us, that he who has Light has life and one day we will stand in His light, see Him as He is and be like Him.
4. One other thought before I fade into the darkness of the Internet. The first thing you see in the morning, as the sun begins to make its assent into our part of the world, is the sky as it begins to light the way for a new day. Are all of these things, God’s way of reminding us that He, not we, is in ultimate control? He invites us, in fact, He pleads with us, to leave the darkness and come to the light, but as John so apply put it, “We love darkness rather than light.” Maybe the “Sunrise” is God’s invitation to you to begin a new day in “His light” and enjoy the true color of life.
