The word hope has significant meaning because it is something that drives us to press on to the greater things in life. Everyone has hope in something. A married couple hopes to have a baby. An unemployed man hopes to get a good job. A basketball or baseball team hopes to win the championship. Hope simply means an expectation or desire in something or someone. No matter what the obstacles or circumstances are hope always keep our heads up. The reverend Jesse Jackson said” keep hope alive”. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said: “I have a dream”. What are your hopes? What are your dreams?
One thing about the word hope is that it has a similar meaning as faith. The basis is belief. The Bible says “hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh it is a tree of life”. See our hope shape our life and point us to the road that we should follow. No hope no future.
The devil is another reason why we must have hope. His role is to depress, oppress and stress the children of God. Satan wants to turn us away from God anyway he can. He knows that if he can get us to give up hope, he can pretty much have his way in our lives. The adversary wants us to forget about healing, deliverance, financial blessing and most importantly the purpose for our life. That is why we should have high expectations. Jeremiah 17:7 says, “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is”.
In conclusion, living a life without any hope leads to a life of depression, disappointment and disaster. I believe that backsliding, drug and alcohol abuse are issues behind no hope. Suicide is also a common result. Many brothers and sisters go through life “going through life”. We allow people, things and situations to give us doubt. Hope is what separates those who be, do and have from those who be not, do not and have not. The process continues. Amen.
