“ The soul that sins shall surely die”—
A law that rules time’s length and breadth
Since our first parents bought the lie.
All stand condemned, none are immune,
The vale of death we all traverse,
With graves and tombs the earth is strewn
Bearing witness to its awful curse.
But there’s a greater death than this
A severance twixt God and man
A dark impassable abyss
No fallen sinful man can span.
Into this void comes Jesus Christ,
God here as man to interpose;
He, through His death would pay the price,
The law of sin and death depose.
For any law to be reversed
A greater power must be invoked,
So on the cross Christ bore the curse—
The curse on us was then revoked.
Christ resurrected verified
The law of sin and death’s defeat
For those of faith, Christ’s blood applied
Means our redemption is complete.
No condemnation is in store,
No fear of death, we rest secure,
Before us is an open door—
He’ll take us home—We can be sure.
