Foretold an end that none could see,
The elders wept for days of old
For what the temple used to be.
But The Lord informed the prophet
That these small foundations laid
Pointed to a great fulfilment
And that none should be dismayed.
By the deeds of Zerubbabel
And the building now begun
God set the wheels in motion
For the Branch Who was to come.
For Zerubbabel typified
The Greater Son of David’s line,
The Messiah long awaited—
This small beginning was a sign.
Do not despise the little things
Or commencements that seem weak—
That’s how The Holy Spirit works—
Through methods simple yet unique.
In Bethlehem a child was born,
To the world a non-event
Yet He was God down here as Man—
This is as the prophet meant.
In Jerusalem He’s crucified—
An inglorious end it seems
But it’s a new beginning
God has worked behind the scenes.
You can have a new beginning—
Put your faith in Jesus Christ
Partake of life that never ends
Through His atoning sacrifice.
He’s the Alpha and Omega
On Him you can depend—
He’s the Word and it’s fulfilment,
The beginning and the end.

I really liked the core message—that God works through the small, overlooked, and seemingly weak—is strongly defined from the first stanza to the last
