The rabbit scurries through the wood
Frolics with the other rabbits,
Carefree, at ease—life is good.
Hidden in the undergrowth,
He doesn’t see or hear the snap—
Too late!—his life snuffed out,
Extinguished in the fowler’s trap.
Our adversary’s a fowler,
He’s the father of all lies
Who seeks to keep us frivolous,
All his traps are well disguised.
Should you frolic free and careless
He will keep your soul ensnared,
You won’t see impending danger—
The Day will catch you unprepared.
Demonstrated all around us
The cyclic course of life and death
In the witness of the Scriptures
And through creation’s length and breadth.
Should you choose to disregard it
And choose frivolity instead
You alone will own the outcome
When the Book of Life is read.
For your name will not be in it
And all your deeds will be exposed
For the fowler took you captive—
Now the door to life is closed.
Don’t you be like the rabbit
Who didn’t see or hear the snap,
Trust in Jesus as your Saviour
And avoid the fowler’s trap.
