The removal of this lock would, and did, take divine intervention. It would be removed by the Person and the Work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Before the “love” of God would or could remove this lock, His justice would have to first be satisfied. The eyes of God cannot even look (with approval) upon evil, let alone have eternal fellowship with a sin-stained soul (2).
Divine justice requires that every spot of sin, including every sin on the soul of the one we face in the mirror, be cleansed away by having the sin debt paid in full.
According to James 2:10, just one spot (sin) on any soul denies that soul the ability to get passed by the lock that the Fall of Man placed on the Gates of Heaven.
Since there is not one who has not sinned (3), James 2:10 places all of us in the same stinking, sinking, boat of sin, and in need of His stain remover.
Just a single spot of cancer in the natural realm, that is not removed, will inevitably lead to the natural destruction of the organ and the physical death of the individual.
Likewise, the sin of disbelief will lead to the spiritual death (separation from God) for all of eternity of the sin-stained soul.
The dilemma that Man faced after the Fall of Man, was that there never was, is not now, or ever will be, a spot-remover that Man can produce, capable of removing the spots from his or her sin-stained soul.
The sin debt of the entire human race, with the exception of the sin of disbelief (4), was stamped paid in full by the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ when He was on the cross. So says 1John 2: 2.
This exception was not a deficiency in His atoning work.It was by divine design.
The sin of disbelief is the “unpardonable sin” because there has never been, is not now, nor will there ever be, a remedy for the sin of disbelief.
As of the Church Age, one is condemned by the Court of Heaven after having heard the unadulterated Gospel Message, encapsulated in John 3: 16, 18, and then choosing not to believe it.
The window of opportunity for an unbeliever to repent (change his mind) and to become a believer, closes at the moment his or her soul separates from the body at the moment of physical death and enters eternity future.
All born-again believers, having had the spots (record of sin) washed away, will find the gates of Heaven unlocked, when he or she departs this world and goes home to be with the Lord (5).
Presenting or being presented with the Gospel Message is serious business.
While it assures believers of a spot-free soul, eternal life, and a place in Heaven, it assures unbelievers of never-ending torment and spiritual death for all of eternity.
Spiritual death is NOT a state of non-existence. It is a state of existence while separated from God and the things of God.
The atoning Work of the Lord Jesus Christ, in His capacity as the spotless Lamb of God, provided Fallen Man with the means and opportunity to find the otherwise locked gates of Heaven, open.
But in order for any individual soul to benefit from the finished (6) Work of the Lord Jesus Christ, he or she must choose to believe in the unadulterated Gospel Message.
Eternal life and its security is an unearned, undeserved, irrevocable, gift from God that He bestows on EVERYONE who believes.
ANYONE who chooses not to believe, will find himself or herself in the Torments of Hades upon departing this world, and later being tossed into what the Bible calls the lake of fire, when the Rev. 20: 13, 15 event takes place.
