One, a proud Pharisee with plenty to say
Who boasted and bragged of his self-righteousness—
Much better than others he proudly professed.
He spoke of his fasting and keeping of law—
(His sinless perfection was all that he saw)
No confession of sin, no admission of guilt,
Contemptuous of others, was vain to the hilt.
He looked down his nose at the other who came,
Adjudged him a sinner he viewed with disdain,
He exalted himself as worthy and just,
Regarding the other with haughty disgust.
The publican bowed, well aware of his sin,
Confessed from his heart the things hidden within,
No boast of self-worth, seeking mercy alone—
When one humbles himself God’s mercy is shown.
Justified, he goes home, forgiven, set free
While judgement hangs over the proud Pharisee—
Let us, in like manner, in humbleness come—
For mercy trumps judgement through Jesus the Son.

I am sorry I misspoke and said the Good Samaritan instead of the Pharisee who rambled on without giving mercy to the people in the temple.
I loved how you pointed out that Jesus the Son of God gives mercy to all who believe.
