Diamond's reaction was understandable. ”What happened to him?”
A doctor who entered the room answered, "Four broken ribs, a cracked sternum, a torn rotator cuff and burns over fifty percent of his torso and face.”
A detective added, “If it weren't for the burns, you'd be the number one suspect. He said that he was beaten by several older men, one of whom burned him.”
Diamond was relieved to hear that they didn't think he'd beaten Lion Lord. They were enemies, but Diamond showed restraint. He asked about the men.
The older detective described them as older and muscular, with one man shooting fire from his hands. An instant later, the detectives’ radios squawked with a report of several superpowered individuals beating up the two other men of Allah’s Fist.
Diamond shouted over his shoulder as he flew away. “See you there.”
As he arrived, Diamond saw several men in robes or togas. As he landed between Moonhunter and Owl and the attackers, one man said, “Stand aside, mortal. The New gods are dealing with these criminals.”
Diamond shot back, “There's only one God and I don't see Him here.”
Another man raised his hands and shot fire at Diamond, while another threw a bolt of lightning. Diamond snorted, "You'll have to do a lot better than that.”
The one in the center said, "My fellows, we ought to fall back to figure out how to deal with this mere mortal.”
“There's nothing mere about me, so stand and fight.”
Diamond realized he hadn’t been paying attention. One of the group, a man with multiple arms, snuck up behind him and restrained him. Diamond heard the man say, “My fellow gods, attack whilst I hold this impudent mortal.”
He soon realized that holding Diamond was not as easy as restraining him. Diamond flexed and the hold was broken and he heard the New god fall to the ground. Gesturing with his hands, Diamond said, “Next.”
The one in a toga threw a stronger lightning bolt. Diamond laughed, “Megawatt can hit harder, phony god.”
The one to his right fired another heat blast, that rolled off Diamond. “That didn’t even tickle. My turn.”
Striding confidently forward, Diamond yanked down on the electric tossing fake’s wrists and downed him with an uppercut. The fire tosser said, “You felled Zeus with one punch. You will not fare so well against Ra!”
“I told you, you didn’t even tickle me last time.” Reaching down and behind him, Diamond lifted the four armed man and held him in front of him. “Guessing you don’t really want to toast your buddy.”
Ra lowered his arms. “Jupiter, what should we do?”
The final member of the so-called New gods lowered the glittering lightning shaped projectile. “We surrender. We certainly don’t want to hurt Shiva.” Looking to Diamond, Jupiter said, “You know you won’t be able to hold us for long?”
Diamond responded, “As you aren’t really gods, you’ll be amazed how well you can be locked up.” He added with a tilt of his head, “Once you lose the armor and any other gizmos, I think a regular cell will do just fine.”
After the New gods were cuffed and taken away, Diamond quietly dropped to his knees and thanked God that he was able to easily defeat the four pretenders. His prayer finished, he flew to the medical wing to tell Lion Lord he didn’t need to worry about those fake gods. As he was getting ready to do so, he realized he had forgotten to see what Moonhunter and Owl had been up to. Diamond decided not to worry, because he knew he could handle them later.
