God, and the things of God, played a central role in the lives of most folks with whom I had interaction.
Since then, our society has changed dramatically, and not for the better.
1Tim. 4: 1 apostasy, substance abuse, genuine potential of a nuclear or biological war, a pandemic, scandals within religious and political institutions, civil unrest, assassinations, uncurbed violence and crime, frequent natural disasters, recession, controversial foreign-affair policies, abortion, sexual immorality of all kinds, and the redefining of traditional roles within the family structure has gradually, but undeniably, redefined much of our society, in spite of the divine (1) warning against such things.
Scripture (2) teach, and world history concurs, that there is nothing “new” about these things, as they seem to be a part of the inevitable cycle of Fallen Man, as history repeats itself, over and over again.
You don’t have to be a theologian to distinguish right from wrong (3), or to see where any society in moral decline is headed.
Freedom without restraint plants the seeds of anarchy, in which individuals and groups of individuals promote their own agenda, while having no disregard for God, and or the harm they bring to themselves and to other people.
The principle of guilt by association is in view, as the relatively innocent are subjected to undeserved suffering alongside of those directly responsible.
I say relatively innocent, because one of the reasons that sin flourishes is because good people do nothing to oppose or to correct it.
If one is not part of the solution, he or she is part of the problem.
There is no excuse for taking out one’s hurt on innocent victims, as seems to be the motivation behind many of the mass shootings taking place, but those who engage in (or allow) the irresponsible or tormenting activity that inevitably provokes or facilitates such things, have to consider their own culpability, as well.
Maximum divine discipline for an individual results in physical death (4). Maximum divine discipline for a nation results in its removal from among the existing community of nations (5).
But before these extremes take place, untold numbers of human are impacted. Accepting much of what God allows to take place in light of the Gal. 6: 7 principle, is a major hurdle to be overcome along the road to spiritual maturity.
The content of our daily news broadcasts is clear evidence of individuals, a nation, and a world, that are spinning out of control, having rejected God and the things of God, for which there will be no human solutions.
Scripture (6) speaks of a coming period of human history that will be so horrific, that if it were not cut short via divine intervention, the human race would cease to exist.
In the times that we are now living, people change their priorities, attitudes, relationships, careers, jobs, and residences so often that their lives (and the lives of those around them) are likened to riding a roller-coaster.
There may very-well be seasonal pleasure and excitement from all of this change and constant activity, but there is coming a time when this world’s “amusement park” will be closed down, and we will individually stand before God and give an account of what we did with the opportunities we were given to glorify God.
Man initially glorifies God by making a one-time choice to be born again (7), and afterwards, by making daily choices to execute the post salvation spiritual life of Biblical discipleship, 24/7.
Change(s) can be a good thing, but not when the end result takes those pursuing such things further and further away from what God has in mind.
The good news is that nothing is beyond repair, providing we are willing to make a true assessment (8); take the necessary steps to address what is wrong (9), and then to do what must be done (10), in order to move forward along the right road (11).
It was the wrong choices that got us into the sad state of affairs that we are in, and it can only be by making the right choices that we can stabilize it, before the window of opportunity closes and our ungodly choices bring us to the point of no return.
