She had finished work for the day and was just about to go out as Speedster when the news reported that a large serpentine creature was rampaging through the state capital.
Changing into her costume, she ran the one hundred miles in a matter of seconds. There she saw a large serpent-like creature with ridiculously small wings on its back gobbling up random people. It was paying attention more to the National Guard troops and police as they shot at it.
She looked at it in amazement, then shrugged off the feeling. People were dying and she had to do something.
So she decided to resort to an old trick, racing around the creature to attempt to draw air away from it. It needs to breathe, she assumed.
Instants later, the serpent spoke. “Little Knight, you seek to suffocate me?”
Speedster skidded to a halt. “Little knight? “
“Yes, I am Basilisk, the little king. Who are you?”
Speedster knew about the Basilisk from college, but didn't understand what the talking serpent was saying. “Are you saying that you are a mythical serpent?”
Basilisk responded, “Of course.”
Speedster asked, "What do you want?”
Basilisk responded, “Maybe kill all humanity? Maybe destroy the world later?”
Speedster wondered how she could defeat a creature from mythology.
She had already tried removing the air from around her. Maybe a more robust physical attack could work. Speedster slammed her fists into the Basilisk at just under light speed. This meant she was hitting her with near infinite mass punches.
It staggered the Basilisk. After a moment the serpent called out, "Enough! I yield.”
Speedster stopped in mid-punch. “You simply expect me to accept your surrender and let you go?”
"Yes, Little Knight. Do you have a name? It will be good for the legend.”
“Speedster.”
“How unoriginal. Very well, Speedster, you have defended your realm for now.”
And with that she reverted to a normal garden snake and slithered away, after coughing up the people she had consumed. They were in good shape, despite being in the belly of a mythological serpent.
Speedster quickly searched the area, trying to discover which serpent was the Basilisk, but after a few minutes of fruitless searching, she gave up.
She mused, “Who's next? Morgan Le Fay? The Lady of the Lake?” Belinda decided that in the latter's case, she'd leave that one for Mariness.
