The most beautiful girl at Madisonville High School.
I sigh as she enters English class; laughing as she usually does. She looks adorable with her long blond hair pulled into a bouncy ponytail. She’s wearing a pale green sweater and brown skirt. Oh my, how she causes my heart to do flip-flops.
Our teacher, Mr. Simpson, is rattling on-and-on about vocabulary and grammar, but my thoughts are on the pretty girl sitting in the first row, third seat. I am day-dreaming about how I can get her to go on a date with me. Then I hear Mr. Simpson ask, “…and what do you think Jeremy?”
“Huh?”
“Ah….well….you see…..”
“You haven’t heard a word I was saying have you Jeremy?” Frowned Mr. Simpson.
“No, sir, I guess I haven’t. I’m sorry. What was the question again?”
“Never mind. Crystal, how would you answer the question?”
Wait….
What!
Oh brother. I close my eyes, totally embarrassed. Crystal must think I’m a real jerk. As I look up, Crystal gives me a little smirk as she answers Mr. Simpsons’ question.
Great…..
Mercifully class ends. As I'm walking out of class Crystal walks over to me, and with a silly grin on her face says, “Nice job there Jeremy. What were you daydreaming about?”
Hmmmm, dare I tell her?
Will she think me too forward?
“What have you got to lose” a little voice whispered in my ear.
“Right,” I silently whispered back.
“Well, to be honest, Crystal, I was wondering if you might like to go to the movies with me Saturday night.”
“I though you’d never ask,” Crystal smiled flirtatiously.
“Really? Great. I’ll pick you up at seven.”
“I’ll be ready.”
And that’s when a love blossomed and the teasing began.

First comes love, then comes marriage
Then comes Crystal with a baby carriage.
They graduated in June.
September 1958, they were married in a romantic ceremony at Highland Church. Jeremy looked dapper in his black tuxedo while Crystal was a sight-to-behold (according to Jeremy) as she waked down the aisle in a sea of satin and lace. It was a day they both would remember forever.
Three years later Crystal was pregnant with their first child. How happy and excited the couple was. Jeremy became overly protective of Crystal to the point that Crystal lovingly had to tell him to “back off”.
“I don’t want anything to happen to you or our baby,” worried Jeremy.
“Babe, I’m not a china doll. I won’t break. You don’t have to worry about me all the time. Me and this little one will be just fine,” assured Crystal as she patted her growing tummy.
But were they?
It happened so fast.
One day Crystal was feeling just fine and the next day she was in agony, home alone, and scared-to-death.
“What is happening?” She asked herself. “It’s too early for the baby to come. I’m only twenty-one weeks.”
And then the bleeding started.
Crystal knew she needed help. She called her husband at work, her mom and finally an ambulance. They rushed her to the hospital. A few minutes later Jeremy ran through the hospital doors and rushed to Crystal’s room.
“What's going on?” Jeremy asked breathlessly.
“I think I’m having a miscarriage,” sobbed Crystal. “The doctors are trying to save the baby, but I don’t know….”
And then it happened.
So quickly.
So suddenly.
Crystal was rushed to the delivery room where she delivered a one pound baby girl. Although baby was alive, she made no sound. Crystal and Jeremy took turns holding their precious daughter.
“Let’s name her Crystalynn”, Jeremy said, beautiful like crystals.
As Jeremy was holding her, she suddenly breathed her last. There in the arms of her father, little Crystalynn lost her battle to live, but as she rested in the arms of her earthly father, a Greater Father was ready to welcome her home.
Was her life cut short?
No.
She was “knitted together in her mother’s womb….all the days ordained for me were written in your book.”
Death brings sorrow. A painful sorrow. But Jeremy and Crystal had the assurance their daughter was waiting for them in heaven and one day they would be reunited forever with the Greatest Father of all.
In her heart Crystal heard her Father say, “Welcome Home, Crystalynn. Come into my arms.”
