Of one condemned to die?
Who would the dark of death embrace
For sinners such as I?
What kind of Man leaves Heaven’s bliss,
The glories of above
To come to such a world as this?
The Essence of true love.
The One Who came was long foretold—
It was no afterthought;
To patriarchs and seers of old,
The One, true faith had sought.
The pages of the Scriptures speak
Down to our current day
That God would save both Jew and Greek
Who all alike have strayed.
When God as Man came here below
It was to deal with sin;
The simplest man can surely know,
By faith can enter in.
Our God is loving, kind and good,
Wants all men to be saved,
So in our place Christ Jesus stood
To free those long enslaved.
The Man Who came as humankind,
Our substitute, the Lamb,
By His shed blood our pardon signed—
Emmanuel, I Am.
