As I walked past her door.
Glued to her laptop,
Of that I was sure.
Who was online
And what was their prob?
Teenage angst
Over a handsome heartthrob?
I stopped for a mo,
And heard her say lit.
A candle or match?
But neither word fit.
I turned myself round
And knocked on her door.
Let myself in,
She was angry for sure.
“How dare you come in!”
Her eyes opened wide.
“Sadfishing?” I said.
“Has somebody died?”
“How old are you, Mom?
You’re so out of touch.
Sadfishing is slang
For sharing too much.”
“Too much of what?”
I asked her to tell.
“Emotions and sadness,
And not feeling well.”
“I’ll take you to see them.
A chat’s always good.”
My child rolled her eyes.
“I know that you would.”
“But Sadfishing is fake,
None of it’s cool.
I may be sixteen,
But I’m nobody’s fool.”
The earphones went in,
She turned back to her chat.
“Hey,” she started,
“Sorry about that.”
I shook my old head,
And walked out the door.
“Patience please, Lord.
I can’t take much more!”
