Silently through the air, the arrow shot across the sleepy meadow, and hit the unsuspecting animal grazing on the tender grass. As the beast fell with a grunt, Eliab imagined the joy in his wife’s eyes upon his return and what she might say. “Praise God.The Lord has blessed you again with a successful hunt.” And Eliab would agree.
That night as they feasted by the fire, savoring the goodness of God’s provisions, they bowed their heads and gave thanks. Never did they imagine, thousands of years later, when their descendants would continue in the quest for survival. Like mighty hunters, they would follow in the footsteps of their ancestors, reaping the bounty from God's great earth, however, with a much different approach.

Steve rifled through the newspapers piled on the kitchen table. “Hey babe, you seen this week’s adds? Mary’s Market has a sale on turkeys. Gotta make sure we get some before they run out.” He frowned. “Had to get a raincheck last time.”
Linda gave a long sigh. “Oh yeah, and don’t forget Lamb. Didn’t you say they were supposed to get some in this week? I love lamb.“
“And hamburger.” He pulled out his iPhone and thumbed a note: turk lamb hamb.
“Yeah, and make sure it’s grass fed.”
“Yep, got it. Anything else you can think of?”
She shuffled across the kitchen and read from the list stuck to the refrigerator door. “Milk, eggs, mayonnaise, lettuce, cheese ….”
“Oh, just take a picture and send it to me in a text. Think of anything else, text me. I should be back in an hour,” he said, and headed out the door.
Two hours later she sent him a text: Need baking soda. Where are you?
Penny’s Pickins came the response. They got organic cauliflower and grilled artichokes. It's a good day to shop. Think of anything else we need?
Great find! Get a few of those and don’t forget the almond milk.
Got it.
Then she added. Got mayonnaise yet? Need to make salad dressing. Comin home soon?
Got mayonnaise and headed to the check-out line. Home in ten.
K. I’ll start the grill.
Forty minutes later… Steaks are done. How long before you’re home?
At Crave Mart getting candy. They got Wally Bars. Want some?
If you want em, get em, but not for me. I’m on a diet, remember?
Got it. Be home in a short.
Around eight o’clock that night, there came a firm knock on the back door. Linda rushed to answer it.
“Hi babe,” Steve chirped, as he lumbered inside the kitchen, numerous plastic bags hanging from both arms. He placed the bags on the floor and reached into his pocket. “Found some great buys, he said, pulling out several receipts and holding them up like ribbons of honor. “And look,” he said with a glimmer in his eyes, then reached inside a bag, pulled out a package and held it high with a look of triumph,“Grass-fed beef,” as if he had shot the cow himself.
“Oh that’s great babe. You’re such a great shopper. Thanks for all your hard work.”
It took several trips to and from the car for Steve to deliver the plentiful bounty he had gathered that day. Like a mighty hunter, once again, he had brought home the bacon.
Later that night after the groceries were put away and dinner was set at the table, they sat in the warm glow of the candle light and bowed their heads and prayed. “Thank you, Lord, for all of your wonderful provisions. You have blessed us beyond our wildest dreams. You give us everything we need, and then some.”
